Board an air-conditioned, luxury coach in downtown Boston and enjoy the scenic drive north to Marblehead and Salem, famous for the 1692 witch trials in which 20 residents were executed for allegedly practicing witchcraft. It’s just the beginning of the education on this Salem Witch City day trip.

The sightseeing tour begins in the coastal town of Marblehead, the birthplace of the American Navy and Marine Corps Aviation. Visit Abbot Hall, a town hall and historical museum where the original Spirit of ’76 painting is housed. Abbot Hall listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Onward to Salem, learn much more about the infamous Salem witch trials, a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts in the late 1600s. The trials resulted in the executions of 20 people, most of them women. It still stands as one of the nation’s most notorious cases of mass hysteria.

Explore the city on your own. Suggested attractions include a visit the House of the Seven Gables, a National Historic Landmark District that served as the centerpiece in novelist and Salem-native Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic novel of the same name. It’s the oldest surviving 17th-century wooden mansion in New England. Also, visit the U.S. Custom House, where Hawthorne worked.

Finally, enjoy additional free time for lunch at a wide variety of restaurants and cafes in the Pickering Wharf neighborhood of Salem. Stop by any number of local Halloween shops and other witch-themed attractions and/or visit the Salem Witch Museum, if desired. There is a fee to enter the museum.

The tour concludes with drop-off at your Boston hotel.

Notice: This seasonal tour operates from June to October.

We enjoyed the trip to the House of Seven Gables. Well organized and informative. The Witch City (Salem) part of the trip was a disappointment. We thought our tour guide would be with us for a portion of the trip to give us historic info. Because the museum and witch house were both booked no one on our tour was able to experience that, which she knew b/c she called ahead. Any history she could share would have been of interest. Our guide also said she would wait for us to unload and we could follow her to a restaurant...when we got off the bus with several others she was no where to be seen. Our pick up place to load to go home changed and we left 1/2 later than she said. She also had us departing Salem at 4:00 pm. Several of us on the bus thought we would be back to Boston by 4:00. We NOW realize that October is extremely busy in Salem, but your company and guides know this and should plan accordingly.

Unable to visit Witch Museum; otherwise good, enjoyable town.

Comfortable bus, safe ride, adequate narration, but we wanted to visit the Witch Museum which tour description/discount tickets promised. This was a BUSY holiday weekend but company, as an operator, should not advertise Museum as part of offerings if we find upon arrival that we cannot get into the museum. Otherwise good, nice drive along coast, enjoyable.

Day trip to Salem

I travel solo. This was perfect for me. I had a great tour guide that knew history. Sheila was wonderful. She knew the details like the chimneys being white with a black stripe. We were given a couple three hours on our own. Being October big festival, so crowded. But awesome. Would recommend this tour to anyone. But you must be able to walk. Lots of walking around Salem. House of Seven Gables was a cool extra touch.

I was concerned after reading some of the other negative reviews to sign up for this trip, but this day trip was OUTSTANDING!!! Yes, they do drop you off in Salem for several hours, but do your homework and you will have a great time! Tony was EXCELLENT and gave us many suggestions otw for the "must do's". The side trip to Abbott Hall, Marblehead and Castle Rock were AMAZING!!!!

You can't see everything if just a few hours so it's best to spend the whole day there so you see everything and learn the real history of the area and what it's known for.

Tony did a great job. He grew up in the area, so could tell some great stories. The drive to Salem was along the coast. We saw many BIG houses that cost $$$$$. The time spent in Salem was just enough. More time might have been boring. We did get to see the main attractions. The Witch Museum and the Dungeon Museum are both very interesting.

Love tours that share history and sights but also give you time on your own with good recommendations. Ron and Joe were great tour guides and driver, and it takes some talent to navigate a motor coach some of the places we went! Fun trip, the day flew by.

Expected more than just transportation.

When I purchased this tour I expected a tour of Salem. What I got was transportation to and from. They drove us there and just dropped us off and came back five hours later. That is not a tour.
